Hi guys,

Can you suggest a service provider I can utilize to setup a SMS Donation Line for an organization?

A provider that doesn't charge exorbitant fees.

Preferably something with an admin console so I can manage things.

Thanks for any input.

clickatell.com

All providers charge huge fees for these services, everyone is into making huge profits and everyone has strange terms and conditions for these type of services.

Thanks for the response.

If anyone else has more input, I would appreciate it.

I'd prefer to see more options.

Try a company called Foneworx. They're based in JHB.

I work for a WASP so the rough payout is 40% (ex VAT) of the rated number your going to use. Also some WASPS will give you a discounted monthly fee but you pay depending on how many other people share your code - if you have exclusive use of the number then you will be charged anything R2K upwards, if you share a code that is based on keywords then the cost is shared.

My current employer is not yet offering these services but my previous one did. Also don't expect massive volumes unless you have prime time advertising on TV like Winikhaya had.

Its a great fundraising tool but don't expect miracles.

I'd also recommend clickatell. Nice enough admin console. You could also try bulksms.

My 2c, i dont donate via sms, because then my number gets onto somebodys lists and i get spammed.

Offer alternates to the SMS line - for those people like me (e.g. EFT).

I agree, I refuse to donate by SMS on principle as so little of the money ends up with the charity.

Thanks for the links and comments. This is my concern. I won't create a donation campaign for this organization if they will get the short end of the stick. Then I'd rather stick to EFT and conventional methods.

SMS as a donation tool to compliment your existing setup is great but it should never be allowed to eat into your other forms of donations. For a lot of users like me who sit with extra topup airtime, spending it on a good cause is great. Its an easy method for people to donate.

As mentioned before, don't rely on this generate huge amounts of money. And other members have raised the general objections to to rated SMS campaigns.
