I recently received the following sms from +278400012621230

MTNSP: To receive cellphone statements for (my number) by email, SMS your address ONLY to 30571 (free). To opt out of this communication SMS STOP to 30571

Did anyone else get this message? I'm not sure whether this is actually MTN or just a scam to steal my airtime and email address.

Of course I can just ignore it, but it would actually be helpful to me to receive these statements by email.

or you can just call 808 & give them your email address verbally with the request to send statements via email. It is afterall a free call...

Also look up the short code, there is a website, but can't remember the address. Google it?

Could be legit though, double check with 808.

Thanks, will do. I wish I didn't have to be suspicious of every second email or sms. But hey, I guess that's a part of living in the age we do.
