Hi,

I am traveling overseas tomorrow and I would like my sms's to come through , but not phone calls.

As a previous vodacom subscriber, i am used to an easy process of sending an sms from the plane.

Last year, after a few phone calls to 808 from SA, and a few emails from israel,
they eventually activated INTERNATIONAL ROAMING, and my phone started ringing none stop , so i had to switch it completely off.

I wrote a complaint email and got a reply 4 MONTH later, basically saying "sorry".

Anyway, what can I do to avoid this whole story again (except moving back to vodacom, which will happen soon.).

It's rather straight forward.

1) Activate international roaming, make sure you get a confirmation that is has been done, and also a reference. I'd also call in and check 24 hours later that it really has been done.

2) Disable any diverts and voicemail, otherwise you will pay for calls to go back to your voicemail box in South Africa.

3) Activate call barring, to stop incoming calls. Basically caller just gets an engaged signal. I suspect you can only do this when you are physically on the South African network. So make sure you do it here before you leave, and test it.

That should ensure you can roam, receive and send SMS's and make outbound calls, all incoming calls are killed.
