I have telephone numbers (DIDs) that I bought online from DID worldwide online from SA in the range 011 461 3XXX which is Joburg. Now I use these numbers to receive calls from SA to be routed over IP to US or UK .

Now sometime last month I received more than 100 voicemessages in my extension that the above Joburg number points to.

The messages appear to be an announcement like

" Good day you have received an SMS from 074 XXX XXX at such a time ' Then after that there is a brief message which appears to be an advert like "Stop Music" 'Video" or "Buy" or after that the messages then proceeds like "To hear the message again please press 1 to hear the message envelope press 2."

After that it disconnects and bids me farewell.

Now I then received several callers to my DID screaming at me asking me to remove them from their SMS send list and I dont do SMS

It appears the SMS spammers spoof the caller ID when using an application to send BULK SMS to users and when those users
want out they now call my DID which of course is "listed as the sender" when they get these messages.

My original number was 011 461 3251 I contacted the company which sold me the number online and they gave me a different number from the same operator and guess what the spamming is back.

This is very annoying and I am seeking to report and resolve this.

Any one with pointers on what this could be please assist.

Thanks,

When you have an SMSC link (used to send bulk SMS messages), you can specify the senders address. It doesn't even need to be a number!

I think you can use the message center number to track down the sender.

Abuse can be reported at WASPA

Sorry, this abuse of above mentioned SMSC hacks is not goverened by WASPA as the offender is not using a local network and WASPA and network rules prohibit a WASP from concealing the originating number.

Actually, its impossible for a ZA WASP to change the from number, the ZA networks don't allow it.
