Ok I've been asked here at work to set up an asp page that'll send an sms/s. Anybody done this before and can you please make suggestions on sms providers that'll help me with this?

I've got no idea where to start, especially with the code side, is it a COM or do I send messages via a URL to a company?

Thanks :)

Many years ago I had a page that did this but it was running on my own server for internal use and I had a GSM modem attached. If you have your own server, that could be an option.

Yes, get in touch with the above providers. They will give you numerous options for sending SMS. Even Http can be used, or XML and FTP. They should have the specifications of each type of connection in the technical details of the services or you can request a test account with documentation.

You should be able to send it with a url,

companies to look at

bulksms
winsms
clickatell

Thanks a ton moklet, I've gone with winsms and the application's all up n running now and working smoothly. Works via a url with prepaid service, was easy to set up cheers :)

i use clickatell, very very good.

They have a nice SMTP api, so all you do is send a specially constructed e-mail.
It translates it to a sms and voila.

Clickatell is fast, and reliable, they send out notices for any downtime etc. :D I have my ticket system send me SMS's and I get them before any emails or notifications have popped on my PC.
