The recall is legit.
How you get notified is in question and not much detail. If its a scam I not sure how it works, because you have to confirm with Mercedes directly.

There is a recall for the SRS(Safety) unit replacement(Airbags). I would expect Mercedes to contact you, so not sure how this SMS comes into play. Nobody contacted me. I remember it had to do with certain airbags manufactured and then my VIN number was not applicable. I had a recall on other vehicle, they just looked and said it was not applicable, so not necessarly something to be replaced.

I've checked with merc and nothing is been recalled on my model merc.

Don't see what this has to do with the department of transport or RTMC.

I remember this recall was not applicable to my vehicle's vin number a few years back, but checking it with Mercedes website it says it is for a recall. This seems back 2016. Neither the dealer nor Mercedes contacted me ever about this. Maybe the dealer just did the check when I took the vehicle for something else and said nothing.
Maybe the RTMC(UK it looks) got awakened somehow(And now the scamsters as well), maybe they hunt in the wild or did an audit on safety recalls and discovered something, who know's, in any case it look amateur operation..

There was a Takata Airbag recall, not 100% sure if its the same, however Takata filed bancruptcy.

It seems the scam is individuals posing as mercedes representitives and maybe collection of vehicles, this maybe the scam if your vehicle is collected...? So it seems the fraudsters zooms in on legit recalls, then get model ownder details and scam them. Death penalty is the only thing thats going to stop this type of activity.

Got the same SMS from RTMC for the recall of my 2008 W204. Checked on Mercedes website, which says no recall.
