The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was ***@***.co.za. Subject 'test', Account: 'Mail', Server: 'smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 Service unavailable; Client host [165.165.113.**] blocked using rbl.saix.net; 1135231800 Suspected open relay see http://www.saix.net/smtp/rbl-faq.html', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Can some one explain, I are noob

I have setup a local mail server on my lan to fetch. We in turn set all mail to the lan mail server which relay's it using smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net. Is this not allowd or something?

After reading the link that they gave in the error (the one with all the spelling mistakes) it seems that the server that you installed is configured to be an open relay server, You probably just have to find the setting for this and change it so that the server isn't open. You'd probably need to set permissions and passwords and the like then.

Hope it helps

Yup - it's not allowed.
Install a SMTP server on your network and let it send your mail.

Dynamic IP, this is only a good plan if you wanna find out how many hosts have blacklisted the 165.165 dynamic range.

I read that too but was too painful. It is very badly written.

I am running 602 Lan suite. I have now added an IP filter to the SMTP portion of the Lan server but will have to wait for my new IP befor I continue with the test. If any one else is using Lan Suite maybe some advise. For every one else thank you for your help thus far.

You can't setup a server inside an ADSL network as an SMTP server, you mail will all be bounced as spam because it will have a dynamic IP address.

What you need to do is get your service provider to relay the mail for you... you can't do it with SAIX's servers.

Personally I would recomend just letting each user send email directly though smtp.saix.net. Don't bother trying to catch all outgoing with LAN Suite; it's going to create you more headache than anything.

Why do you want it to catch the outgoing mail? Maybe there is an alternate solution.

I realise I can not set up my own SMTP server. I am not trying to do that at all. As I pointed out earlier that is just a recipe for disaster as Dynamic IP anges get blocked.

I want to set up the server as a relay, just clearly as I have found out not an open relay. I am hoping by setting up restrictions I will be able to use Sthe SAIX server. I understand where I went wrong. An open relay in the old days was fine but in todays world it is just an invitation for spammers.

I will let you know what the out come is but only next year cause I go on leave today!!! Finally :D

Thanks again to all the peeps that offered advise.
