Snapping/Clunking sound at full lock? (4x4)

I test drove a Nissan Hardbody 2400i D/C 4x4 (90,000 km) today. When I did a U-turn to get back to the dealership there was a noise at full lock when it went up the verge.

One of the guys back at the dealershp reckons it's a common problem, and is simply dry rubbers on the suspension. I said they're welcome to grease it and I'll come back for another test drive. How plausible does that sound? Couldn't it be steering stops that need greasing? Should I be worried etc.
 
Noise at full lock usually means universal joint. Tell them to replace and you will consider it!

Ha! What are the odds of that (them replacing it)? Going to test drive another one tomorrow, will see if it does the same

If they are a decent crowd they will replace it. I ended up with a new clutch on my Polo because I said that the gearchange was sticky. Your more reputable dealers will sort it out first if they realise that there is possibly a deal there.

Just noticed the same thing on my xtrail. Done about 70k km, is this anything serious? (I know next to nothing about cars)
 
It is a common problem - i drove one (Hardbody 2.4) for years with that odd sound something to do with the power steering...it wasn't an issue for me once i learnt not to lock when turning
 
Problem is, if it is a worn universal, it will only get worse asnd more expensive if ignored. You can still drive a car when the UJ's are screaming to be replaced. You shouldn't, however.
 
go to 4x4 community... you will get a nice answer there
 
outside cv joints...if it does that in a straight line...its inner cj joints...get it fixed, kinda cheap
 
on a 4x4 forum a guy with a landrover had same story. landy told him their is some pipng system there some where that needs their attention.

Be care full that dealer does not put a noise killer inside that shafts to kill the noise till the car is yours. make sure they put new ones in.
 
Good to hear.

Mine did the same thing last year and has just started again. When you use it in mud and water this sort if thing tends to happen.
