No using a QR code you specifically avoid using the card machine...

Customers can then safely and simply pay for their purchase by scanning the QR code at the till from the Masterpass app and entering their bank PIN on their phone.

This means that customers and cashiers don’t have to exchange a bank card and the payment pin pad is avoided.[/QUOTE}

Nope it depends what the merchant has signed up for. Most of the bigger retailers use masterpass (now built into most most banking apps)

I assumed PnP would allow snapscan since you now can apparently use your phone instead of a physical smart shopper card.

I haven't tried that feature personally so don't know exactly how it worked IRL

Yip. The POS generates a QR, you login to your P&P app and "scan" it that way. Never tried it for snapscan though.

Can scan using the smart shopper app for points or discounts, but can't pay with an app to my knowledge.

What is awesome about the smart shopper app is when it times out or log in is unsuccessful and everyone behind you waits and growls.

Not my fault their server doesn't always work, you peasants can wait patiently. This is Africa! Viva!

There has to be at least a way to pay with your points using for the app?

Yes, you can spend the R2 you saved after spending 10 000 on groceries.

You can even do it by just giving them the smart shopper ID code after they shout in the air to the special employee that is currently in the bathroom having to override the system.

Not sure about PnP (as I don't buy from them) but I pay for fuel at Engen using the Scan To Pay function in the FNB app and the QR code generated on the card machine. Scan to Pay reads MasterPass and SnapScan QR codes but not Zapper codes.

So I guess if the card machine's QR code is SnapScan compliant it will be possible.

What don't you just use tap and pay via FNB Pay?
