What software do you guys use to create screen captures when creating documentation (those of you who do)?

I've been using PSR that comes with Windows to record my steps and then the laborious task of copy/pasting the captures into our templates and publishing it.

Any other recommendations?

Used it. Still too manual, and tends to look a little bit sloppy unless you "aim" very carefully.

Ideally, I want to capture the active windows and have the option of highlighting where I click on said windows.

Using Gadwin printscreen for years. Currently on v4.6 (2012) . Never had the need to find anything better.

I just use the std PrtScn button on the keyboard, paste into Paint, highlight what's needed and then either save it or copy and paste into Word...

Why not get a free program that can automate ALL of that with one keystroke?

OneNote allows Windows+S to open a screen clipping/cropping session.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\ONENOTEM.EXE

If you only want to copy the active window std windows print screen works well. Just hold down the ALT key while pressing print screen. Then just paste into word or whatever software you are using to create your documentation.
