Has anyone seen any indication of SNO infrastructure being installed?

There's lots of digging going on in Braamfontein, Johannesburg - and it looks like its telecoms cable being laid... This would make a lot of sense since Transtel's HO is in Braamfontein.

If the SNO licence is as imminent as they say then i expect they would be putting a lot of effort into rolling out last-mile type infrastructure at the moment (most of the backbone has been installed but dormant for a few years!!!)

Any indications anywhere else?

The infrastructure is already there, phone Ericsson and speak to the SNO department and they can give you the details.

If you're refering to the backbone - then i know about that...

I was wondering about last-mile - where can we expect to see coverage at the launch?

ambo : ISP's and Companies that have expressed interest in changing I would guess

I i can remember right from discussions in the corporate ranks, the SNO might be using wireless technology for the "last mile". You gonna have a unit on your wall with plugs for your phone line and adsl ect, and they will activate your phone and you plug & play basically, and so with the adsl.

Dont quote my on this cause it was discussed informally

Transtel & Eskom have been running 34 Mb/s Digital microwave & Fibre links back in the late 90's all supplied by STC Boksburg, not sure of their new infrastructure

Eskom has had fibre running on all there power lines for many years already for there internal phone system so that is already in place, as for the rest i don't know, but have seen alot of new microwave towers and cables being but put in all around JHB

Hehehe, that is a good idea, just have a name tag reading "SNO"

Hey, I would help if I saw someone digging for the "SNO"... either way, you win! :D

hehe, and think of the advantage... after robbing a bank, you might be able to pay telkom fees for a month or 2 ;)
