Wasn't it in the final stages for about the whole year now(or two or three)?

Also there was a news piece on myadsl a while back which stated that the SNO was finally licensed?

Haven't watched SNO related news too closely so that is why I am asking!?

Without bursting anyones bubble, I dont think the SNO is going to be any better, they will most prob use cheap indian technology.

Well not to burst your bubble, but for all I care they can use cheap Ethiopian or whatever technology, as long as it works, the prices are better, and they dont call themselves Telkom they will have a client in me as soon as they release consumer products.

A duopoly is just as bad as a monopoly. In fact, markets only really open up when there are 4 companies competing in the same field. Just look at our cellular rates. They will only really start dropping once a fourth operator is introduced.

Hear Hear!!!

I'll take cheap indian technology over expensive Telkom technology ANY DAY.

Dont forget Doc that the Indians are ahead internationally in the IT scene. India are an example to the rest, including Europe and the US of what can be done with the right politics in place... there lies SAs problem... politics.

Oh.. and BTW... EVERYTHING is cheap in comparison to Telkom....

Yeah!

My attitude has become "I'll use ANYTHING as long as it is not proudly south african"... I live in an international place... just because I think that many of SAG's policies stink, doesn't mean I am unpatriotic or hate this place... on the contrary, it frustrates me so to see so many greedy individuals who can't see past their own pockets running the show.

Without a kick arse regulator we're no better off.

I came across weird - I often refer to cheap as expensive, what are peoples thoughts if our downtime was significantly higher?

Would you rahter pay less for that or more for reliability, not that we have had much of the latter with telskum lately either?.

I hate telskum, dont get me wrong!

Welll...

At the higher end... just compare Cisco to RIT... not much to differ on quality, but price on the other hand...
More expensive is not always better... look at Telkom's Marconi equipment... now there's something to search for on this board.. "Marconi"... just do a comparison of good vs bad comments. AND more EXPENSIVE. If I remember correctly, an ADSL router from Telkom used to cost R4000+ - and many features didn't work, needed firmware u/g just to do basic stuff, etc. India is not bad... they can bring much to this country, believe me... they get the biggest piece of the pie in the outsourcing market from the US as far as I am aware.

I will laugh if the SNO comes in at the same pricing and packages as telkom (which they probably will because they said they werent going to start a price war) and they will probably end up using telkom infrastructure and paying out of there bums for it. So essential we are all rooting for a company that will be another telkom(same price and same infrastructure) just with another name :D

I hope that i am wrong.......
