SNO will be delayed another year ... seriously

Ja Nee, this is typical - i.e. to be expected ;)

The fact is that ICASA & DoC have a major problem bcos they haven't sorted out the laws & regs yet - poison Ivy's announcement of 1st Feb liberalisation isn't legal until the laws are actually rewritten - this obviously means that new players are likely to find themselves being taken to court by Telkom for breaching the current laws & regs. I would be extremely surprised if Telkomonopoly didn't take new players to court - all about delaying tactics & holding onto their monopoly for as long as possible.

In my opinion ,The introduction of SNO is no longer significant.because it can not provide effective competition and price reduction in time.

liberilsation process will form many smaller but innovative companies with newer technology to replace SNO's intended marketplace for example VOIP & voice over power line & Sentech 's wireless voice solution

Never the less ,SNO is still welcome ,because it can provide new employment opportunities, may absorb those poor guys.(unnecessarily) retrenched by Telkom.

Incompetence is a major factor in damaging economies.

Watch these guys and learn how NOT to go about things.

It's interesting to note that the UK had a very similar situation to this country, doing a search for "british telecom monopoly" :-

http://www.google.co.za/search?q=br...ient=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

What really shook things up in terms of broadband in the UK was thier local variant of ICASA, Ofcom (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/) who basically made BT offer competitive pricing on thier broadband related products to ISP's via products like Datastream and IPStream.

There's still a lot of trouble with BT and the various ISP's in the UK, but the consumer is benefitting.

I spent an hour surfing around to find similarities with the UK, but it's a really convaluted trail to follow - suffice to say, BT were forced to be competitive and affordable broadband access took off.
