Neotel is so scarce that I have forgotten they exist. Checked there website to see if they still alive and saw something interesting - they employee 78 people.

Geez! is that all. No wonder we are still waiting for that great and glorious day when we can change to them. How on earth can they deploy a nationwide Telecommunications system to rival Telkom with only 78 employees?

I would have thought there would be thousands and thousands of people working feverishly get the Telcom company up and running.

Maybe they employ thousands indirectly? *shrug*

I truly hope they have plans that involve more hiring...

Most of Telkoms employees are technicians that deal with physical lines at residential and business premises. And they are outsourcing this more and more.
Then add in callcentre, etc
So 78 makes sense. Would have put it slightly higher, but I would have guessed somewhere in that region

So what you saying is that the 78 employees could possibly be only "head office" staff. So the thousands of technicians / call centre staff etc are not included in that figure.

Still......... the song, "why are we waiting" comes to mind!

Maybe Im just cynical, but I think its just more of the same. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I dont even smell the patry baking.

TH : Because they will pay company XYZ to handle all of that for them

remember, there is vsnl somewhere in the backround, if they really need technical expertise, all they have to do is ask one of their investor parent companies.

they have only recently aquired some infrastructure. the national backbone is held and maintained by gov. call center and line maintanance is probably outsources as well.

Lets just say that Nedbank didn't give them a 2 billion rand loan without a solid business plan. They will come out & they will be successful. Will they make broadband more affordable, who knows?
