Apple’s forthcoming Mac OS X Snow Leopard may be available before the end of the month after the latest developer build was designated the “Golden Master” version, meaning it’s ready for prime time.
Friday, August 28th is the day that many rumour mills are pegging their hopes on as many speculate that Apple will pre-empt their WWDC and give themselves nearly a full 2 month head start over Windows 7, which is scheduled to ship October 22. August 28th is also just two weeks away, so if Apple is really going to launch it then, we can expect some kind of press release in the next few days.
Snow Leopard represents the next major version of Mac OS X to be released to consumers and has been officially scheduled for September. Snow Leopard will provide a number of “under the hood” enhancements that should improve performance and stability, though the performance improvements are expected to be significant.
Mac OS X Snow Leopard is expected to be priced at around R300 for current OS X Leopard owners, and users purchasing a new Mac on June 8th, 2009 or later can receive the updated operating system for just R100 through Apple’s “Up to Date” program.
