Snowden struggles in search for asylum

It is just unbelievable that this man - a hero - should struggle to find a safe haven. It just shows how much leverage the US has internationally. The whole world is too afraid to upset the US. This should be triggering alarm bells all over the place.

To me it s sad that South Africa is not standing up. That we - with our rich history of overcoming oppression - don't offer to help makes a mockery of what this country stands for. It just shows that those in power are there for whatever they can get out of the position and not for what is right and just.

The world should be ashamed.

No wonder the masses are starting to stand up all over the place, demanding regime changes. People are sick and tired of the fat cats that consume everything once they are in power. These fat cats feel absolutely nothing for those that voted them in. Democracy is a joke. The US is a joke. They want to export their form of government and economics to every corner of the globe but they are so morally bankrupt that they are the last ones that should try to sell anyone anything. The Chinese leaders are frequent visitors to Africa, and when they come they move around in one or two buses. US presidents hardly come, and when they do they demand that the whole place make way for their extravagance. Just pathetic really.

Why would SA stand up for him? They're in the process of enacting laws that will make it more illegal to expose government "secrets", so if anything they ought to be helping hunt him down at the rate they're going here. The Nkandla report has been classified, imagine if someone handed it to wikileaks who support Snowden. The Zuma tapes need to be leaked too.

Whatever makes you think the current government stands for openness.

Well he did say he saw himself as another [-]martyred useful idiot[/-] "hero" like Manning

Far more oppressive countries got access to sensitive info and their rival took a slap in the face, Greenwald and co got their story and glory while he now sits trapped in an airport transit zone.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

What I don't get is why he didn't make sure he was in Ecuador before the info was leaked.

If you don't want children then don't make them.

If you don't want terrorists then don't make them.

The way the US is going about "fighting terrorism" is a sure way to make more of them. But one has this nagging feeling that the absence of terrorism is not the true goal as that will be bad for the US economy. Nothing like wars to keep men off the streets and hammer the patriotism meme into their brains. Nothing like wartime manufacturing. What to do with all those returning soldiers ... (some of whom are already behind bars for playing their part in an alarming rise in bank robberies etc)?

Terrorism is good for the economy. OBL should have been honored with a memorial on Wall Street. Many companies are much better off now ... and many a millionaire and billionaire created by this booming War on Terror would have been a lot poorer without it.

The games people play ...

To be honest, I am surprised that he has survived this long...

Really? expected him to receive polonium in his tea?

Alexander Litvinenko was a former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service, FSB and KGB, who fled from court prosecution in Russia and received political asylum in the United Kingdom. According to his wife and father, he was working for MI6 and MI5 after receiving the asylum.
Upon his arrival to London, he continued to support the Russian oligarch in exile, Boris Berezovsky, in his media campaign against the Russian government.

On 1 November 2006, Litvinenko suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized. He died three weeks later, becoming the first confirmed victim of lethal polonium-210-induced acute radiation syndrome.[2] According to doctors, "Litvinenko's murder represents an ominous landmark: the beginning of an era of nuclear terrorism".[3][4][5]

Irony he is now trying shelter behind the Kremlin mafia.

Yeah, something along those lines. Would think that the US government would have squashed him sooner.

His story is too mainstream,if he had not spoken out or been in the headlines internationally he would have been take out by now but the bad press if he just goes missing now or gets taken out would be too much.

Because they were already after him by then, rogue agents don't exactly fly under the radar if you go public and big time public its probably safer for you because the USA would not want to take you out in full view of the international community.

If he kept quiet it would be just too easy for them. Now the only way they can get him is to capture him legally and take him to court, very difficult.

The "Spy" who never came in , from -- wherever !

He should have gone to "Nikita" for lessons :D

I did mention that he appeared to have NO idea how deep the wormhole goes

I cannot see how much of a threat he is when he appears to have screwed up his grand -"stand" !
