Hi guys,

My already quite broken internet has gotten worse today. Used to have an SNR of 22 to 25 and a Attenuation of 28-30... Now my SNR is 10 and keeps dropping to - causing my line to resync and my Attenuation is 35. What causes this overnight change ?

Well, not too keen to phone them... their new thing is drop your line speed and it will work!! Guess i am gonna have to phone though, and ask VERY NICELY for a port reset and hope it works.

Got a port reset, SNR arnd 17 now... getting a lot of crackling when i am on the phone though... Reporting line now for the noise. Is there better quality pots filters than the ones telkom hand out ?

It sounds more like a physical line problem

Yea, she says they can't test the adsl line from their end (i know they used to do this, so i am not sure) but she has reported it, lets see what happens.

Sounds like your line has gotten damaged, best fitting explanation for such a rapid overnight change.

SNR of 10 is very bad. Around 20 is average for 4mbit and 30 is good. Attenuation < 40 is reasonable and <30 is good so i guess its reasonable.

Also going to hijack this thread - but does anyone monitor their SNR? Have you ever noticed your SNR improve?

My SNR has been on a downward spiral for the past 12 months or so... since i started looking...

Use the Telkom fault report item on their home page to report a line fault, it doesn't sound like ADSL problem, rather a physical line problem.

Have you got this problem fixed? I have the same problem with the noise crackling also. They came to look and they say it could be the trees that's right next to the box? They say we should trim it. But i never had this problem before it just started a few weeks ago.
