SNR fluctuations

Wonder if anyone can help me diagnose problem with my ADSL not staying connected at all - in particular is it 'normal' for the SNR number to fluctuate wildly? What does it mean if it does? Could someone's electric fence be attached to my phone line?

Just moved to Camps Bay, Cape Town - and am having serious problems with both ADSL and mobile signals in new house. The most perplexing thing is, my ADSL line stats start off with good SNR, but then seconds later is drops rapidly, then disconnects.

I basically can't stay connected at all -- once I managed to get the time to update on the router, but not again.

Is this normal for a new line? or is there something seriously problematic going on? Given that it seems to have a good SNR, but then it collapses to negative 'margin' numbers, is this likely to be fixed with lowering the line speed to 4mbps? Or is this such a strange issue that it's unlikely to be fixed without really looking into the copper wire a bit more?

Here's a picture of the ADSL line stats from Tenda Router --> first one is just seconds after it has 'initialized'
adslgood.PNG
Then a couple of seconds later...
adslbad.PNG
At that point it basically collapses, disconnects and has to start reconnecting.
Right now I have absolutely NO connection on my ADSL...

Separately, but maybe related, my Cell-C mobile keeps going from 5 bars H+ to 0 bars, to Edge (but no data throughput), back to H+ 1 bar, no bars... etc.
An Afrihost/MTN mifi seems to stay alive on 2G only, not 3G - maybe there just isn't a 3G tower nearby...
Telkom-Mobile 8TA SIM I need to do more tests on...
Maybe I should get a vodacom SIM just to test too!?

Is there some crazy device upsetting all of my signals, or is that just a coincidence?

@richjdavies

The -72db is in actual fact -7.2db. Bad one. The good one is 79db and in actual fact 7.9db.
You are 2.x km away from the exchange.

This one you need to work on or rather Telkom.
PM TelkomZA and upload the two picture you posted. Or explain to him. Don't forget to supply your home number, not on the forum.

have to agree pm TelkomZA he always helps and fix things
and know what he is talking about,

just may take a day or 2 to get a reply as he is spammed wiht pm's all the time

The lines in Camps Bay are really bad, that's why you guys are one of the trials for fiber, good luck.

Understood.

Just to be clear. This is the SAME line seconds after each other... It starts off with the first (good) one then a couple of seconds later goes to the second (bad one).

Earlier today I managed to get on using the guests@telkomadsl login, and I could access telkoms site. But again this evening (after 10pm) I'm back with the same problem.

Switched off adsl2+ and (at times) that has kept it at 8mbps, but might just be a coincidence!?

Any advice appreciated. How would I test it for 'local' interference?

im also having SNR fluctuations on only the downstream; ADSL 2+ line at 10mbps. The worrying part is the high CRC errors im getting on the downstream only. my SNR starts at 13.5db and then fluctuates between 10db and 13db

is there a way to test for CRC not using the modem GUI
