We've read the news, we've seen the discusssions, we wonder what the eventual outcome will be, but as the news currently stand.. will you capitulate & join e-tolls, or not?

I've renewed both my car's licences last month which gives me 11 months grace to see what transpires, so I won't.

Expect to see some back-pedalling from the ANC before next years local elections, what happens after that could be interesting.

I will only pay once I see that there is no way out i.e. really cannot renew my licence, get a summons etc.

My license expires this month. Due to a complication at the vehicle department (car in my name that has been scrapped a long time ago generating outstanding fees, unable to take out my name until the finance company hands over the original documents which is proving to be very difficult, long time ago, they want proof that it was paid in full, i wasn't the person paying for it at the time, etc)

Consequently I have been able to renew my vehicle license but unable to obtain the actual disk. I have been driving around without a disk for the past year. My etoll bill is about 8000 at the moment. My outstanding scrapped vehicle fees are around 4k. I basically avoid road blocks at all cost. They jsut love me when they find i got no disk. HE HE HEEE. HEY WENA. WHERE YOU GOING TODAY. WHAT YOU GOT FOR ME. Yeah been lucky so far but i know it might run out sooner or later. So if your reading this and you have a similar daunting situation dont feel too alone.

#‎Etolls‬ clarification on vehicle license discs:

Licensing authorities cannot refuse to take payment for a vehicle license. Even if they refuse to give you a disc, they have to take your money for the vehicle license. There are only a few valid reasons for denying you a disc.
Valid Reason No.1: Your vehicle License fees are in arrears.
Valid Reason No.2: There is a warrant out for your arrest.
Valid Reason No.3: Your vehicle is unroadworthy.
Valid Reason No.4: You have other vehicles that are unlicensed.
Valid Reason No.5: There is an AARTO enforcement order against your name.
For any one of the above scenarios, you are still entitled to pay your vehicle license fees on time. Payment of license fees means your vehicle is licensed (and also insured if you have insurance). Failure to display your license disc is a contravention though, even if you are licensed. A traffic officer may issue you with a fine for not displaying your vehicle license disc. The government will most likely seek to change the law regarding issuing of license discs. But any such change will be subject to judicial review. In the past the courts have been very reluctant to allow the government such powers. In the past the withholding of license discs has been found to be unconstitutional. The courts see it as illegal to withhold a disc for which a motorist has offered payment. You will still receive your notification in the post that your license payment is due. You should ALWAYS go and pay your vehicle license as soon as possible. You should still offer to pay your vehicle license fee even if your disc is withheld. If your vehicle license disc is withheld for an invalid reason as to speak to a supervisor. Ask to speak to the licensing officer if your license disc is withheld. The R114 form from AARTO actually states that it is illegal to withhold your license disc.

Eventually, the already strapped cash indebted middle class of the country, those who keep it running, are going say enough. The gravy train will come to an abrupt halt. Think a few thousand strikers can cause chaos, wait until you see millions of all races band together to end the non stop pillaging of our limited incomes.

Edit, So, no, I won't be paying

Thanks for the informative post there mate. License fees have been paid and are all up to date. Just no disk. Still puts me in the danger zone when it comes to road blocks. Couple of times i show them the actual license paperwork and it just gets grabbed through the window and not given back till i cough up.

Um, that would be a really stupid thing to do (and the cops would open themselves up to a charge of theft).
The only thing the cops can do is give you a fine.
So you pay the R250 fine.
Still cheaper than e-tolls.
(or you just ignore the fine like most Gauteng people).
