I need to upgrade my desktop computer as well as buy a new laptop.

Do you think if I rather just buy a Alienware I will be able to play the latest games and do some work?

You can try the AlienWare M15x.

A bit Expensive at R20 000,You would get more value for money with a PC for that price though.

hey
i sent you a PM in regards your question

Why dont you rather buy one of the Asus gaming laptops. Muuuuuuuuuuuch better value

The best gaming laptop that I've seen so far was the ASUS G73JW-A1 @ R18,618.04 (This is the cheapest price that I've seen in SA by far!).

IMO, it would be better to get a R10k or cheaper laptop and to just buy a decent gaming PC once the Intel Socket 1155 CPU's and motherboards are available in SA, because you pay such a massive premium for these high end laptops and they're way too big/heavy to carry around for business trips.

Thats what I got! Much better value than Alienware imo. Then also consider that statistically Asus have the most reliable laptops.
I've had mine since the begining of last year and the whole experience has been awesome!

That said, I still also use my desktop pc. Its still decently specced tho its probably due for an upgrade sometime this year.

hey guys

i think you have to make a distinction in terms of laptops. if you want a gaming laptop, you immediately discount portability. if you want a light-weight portable gaming rig, forget it. buy a case with a handle.

when it comes to alienware... you're going to pay a premium because its alienware, in the same way you pay more for an audi with same engine as a golf.

there are some things that come into play - i used an alienware laptop for a few weeks last year... for gaming, it was the best i've used, ever. that's because alienware have a reputation for being 'high end' focussed.

if you are price sensitive, for R20k you can get a seriously awesome gaming rig that's not very portable. i'd go that route. if you need something that moves around with you, then its a different story, you're going to pay a premium for portability.

in terms of value for money, don't discount alienware's pedigree for gaming - it is worth something. at the same time, pockets are not always deep, so you need to be considerate.

my view, if you want something for high end gaming, have the budget for it and get the best. there is nothing worse than a gaming rig that is just 'average'.

It makes sense but I looked at the figures and I have to buy a laptop which works out at about R12000 now the company I work for is a Dell Partner so the 15" I'm looking at getting go for about R16000 so that leaves me with about R4000 to buy a pc with. Will that be enough?

I own one. In my dreams :-)
