So i activated dstv after a year and a half without it

After trying every sports streaming avenue that i could find, i finally decided to reactivate dstv. Before you tell me that i am a sell out hear me out first. I found a perfect replacement for sports with ntv via xbmc but the issue i had was, and still is the buffering. I could hardly watch 2 games in a row without minimal buffering. At one point i even resorted to downloading a weekends F1 and watch it on Monday night because the buffering was really bad. So ja ... R665 down the drain for sport. The messed up thing about the whole setup is that it costs me that much for a weekend of sport and the ocassional UEFA during the week. FYI: i still kept Netflix, Hulu+ and newsgroups though
 
Here is a trick to lowering that cost - Try and figure out how to get TNS to call you about the dstv-i, and then you get 10% off your subscription.
Not sure how - but i got a call from them a few years ago, so have a widget in my house sending the viewing data to them.
And recently downgrading my subscription to one below to the premium, and to my surprise, i still get 10% off of that... so its not much, but its something!
 
There is no reliable source of live sports streaming on the internet that I know of (that has what SuperSport offers e.g. local rugby, etc).

I can understand your dilemma.
 
you could use a drifta though the low fps sometimes gets really annoying

What's your ISP?

Afrihost is crap for streaming.

I also tried NTV for a while but yeah, the buffering eventually gets to you. The ECL and EPL is pretty much the only reason "we" still have dstv :(

I used the NTV trial, I could never get the HD streams to work reliably and when they did work the video was jerky which makes it really hard to watch.

This is with 20Mbit/40Mbit VDSL.

Same here.

Reliable Live Sport (soccer, rugby, cricket) = DSTV

Sad, but true

There is nothing more frustrating than buffering on live sport.
 
I dropped dstv a year and a half ago and also believe that there is currently no viable alternative legal or otherwise. It's not only about the content but more importantly the quality and reliability. I have Sky Go access and even with that the range of sport and quality is nowhere close to what dstv offers.
