Either or. A Hackintosh will never be perfect, although my next desktop PC will be a Hackintosh.

MacBooks are in a different league where the price is justified IMO. I don't care much for iMacs/Mac Pros, would not spend that kind of money on them. I'd much rather go Hackintosh with an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad (and a gaming mouse for games ;)).

Why would you need a wireless keyboard?

Incidentally, how well can one type with flat chiclet keys? I think design has overtaken function here.

Apple has a limited basket of hardware to play with, which enables them to get the best performance out of the OS. OS looks for a chip at board level and this determines if it works or not. A Hackintosh would, presumably, disable this in the OS and then work as long as it sees the right drivers. Drivers are crucial.
