So I just got a call from "180531", which is a number unlike any I've seen other than Telkom's support numbers and such.

Rather distrustingly I decided to answer and see what/who on earth this could be and the lady said she's calling from Outsurance.

Said "No thanks" and hung up.

They've called me before but always from normal SA numbers, so I Googled around but can't find any reference to this number at all or of anyone mentioning that Outsurance calls from unsual numbers.

Anyone else seen this?

Yeah, I have seen this before. A friend that works at dimension data called me from a 2 or 3 digit phone number.

apparently most of them are not allowed to hang up untill you do, so just say "I'm sorry, can you wait a few mins, I just need to do [insert something here]". That way they get a few mins break, and you can just waste the money of the company that hired them.

Its an IP based phone number, when using a software "PABX" you can input your own number to be seen by the people you are phoning, thats why it can be shorter or even a 0.

Aha.... thanks a lot for that. Was really wondering if it's legit as I've only seen telco service numbers like that.
Question: If you can input your own number, does that mean you could set your number to eg. 911, 10111 or someone else's number, like Mweb support?
