So I'm Cancelling Neotel!

Today, what did impress me about Neotel: Got a call from someone... Couldn't hear as the line quality wasn't so great... The guy called to ask why I'm canceling... He then told me that my debit will go off as usual R469 at the end of the month as my final payment, and that I should keep the handset ready as Neotel will make an appointment in the new year to come collect the Device, and waver the device charge I had left to pay. (R40x12 I think)

I got a similar phone call. I'll find out at the end of the month whether they mean it or not. In the meantime, I'm having a great time using Axxess uncapped express+. I'll probably cancel it early next year and move to a capped account. There's only so much you can download before things get silly (especially when you're getting > 440kB/s speeds) :) .

collection

Ok, since you both had similar calls, i have one issue with them saying they will only work on a collection next year and waiver this....

If you want us to work the charges early and collect, let me know, i'll action it.
(i have access eventually to skynet e-waybill system) so i can load coll requests....

Thanks Hugo! Still using the device till DSL is connected. I'll pm you once i've swapped over and then arrange collection time!

Off to work! ;)

I'm off on holiday next week so I don't think there's sufficient time left to arrange early collection. The current arrangements are fine with me.

Seems some they win and others they lose. Friends in Durban have battled along for way too long with Telkom and went over to Neotel. So far they say things are good.

Until they have to resort to hanging their device from the ceiling :D

well - Mct - the speeds on the lite service is okay 60% of the time. They throttle p2p to death. on my 384k I polished about 110gigs per month. Since Neotel Lite is more or less half the speed, I would expect around 60gigs... I have NEVER been able to do more than 25 / 30gigs!

Besides that, Its forever disconnecting no matter how good the connection! November I've had about 3 or 4 times where I had no connectivity for hours on end!... and no less, the signal still reported FULL!.

The service even for Lite is just too unreliable, and considering the cost vs DSL cost on uncapped... you get faster on DSL, for just a little more, plus the uncapped packages are looking way more attractive than Neotel these days!

So... for me, bu-bye neo$h1T!

What kind of download speeds were you getting from your Lite device?

max 16Kbs. Average 11Kbs

Right now i'm battling to browse... torrents are running at 2Kbs, and peaks from time to time... - What a wonderful Saturday night online... Grrr...

It is a very sad day when people have to start going to these extremes to solve their problems. Even worse that they have to use a third party forum to get assistance and their voices heard. Quite sad...

Its more of a preference and a convenience to rather use a forum. Its documented which makes it easier to follow up on. Its Public, and forums gives you many people's views including the online rep - in short.. Works for me!. I'm not a fan of call centers! They drive me Dilly! So Neotel support for me wasn't the problem!

I must admit the fact that they have decided to waiver the device costs has impressed me a lot. I don't have Neotel and have been reading in amazement at all the horror stories on the forums. If they do collect the device on time and everything else is smooth I will be impressed. In a year or two when they have hopefully sorted out their issues I might consider moving over to them.

Shouldn't these guys be giving back only half of the device?

After all they've already paid off half of the retail cost on the HP system built into the contract?

Neotel, having already been paid half of the cost, sells the CPE to a new customer and gets paid for it again on a new contract... way to go Neotel.
