So I'm finally getting a PS3

I've already ordered a couple games from take2.

I just wanna so far if there are any tips I should know about the day I get. Example being is it better to use a UK account or SA account for PSN?

I've been a PC gamer all my life so any tips would be awesome.
 
My primary account is a SA PSN account. Everything in your PSN store will be in Rands. I have a UK and US account as well for the odds and ends that doesn't come to the SA store, but you can set that up if and when you need it. I've also been a PC gamer all my life, but decided to get a PS3 exactly a year ago, to play the exclusives I was missing out on. Get Uncharted and LBP, excellent games. Also join PS3za.co.za, great community and cheap games in the marketplace. :)
 
The SA PSN is actually fairly decent. We get the majority of content that you get in the other stores. Plus, like Penquin says, its in Rands!
 
Meh I'm thinking of selling my PS3.. I just don't play it enough.. Maybe once a month for like an hour :/
 
I've been thinking of getting one but I keep on reading that by early 2012 new consoles
are going to be announced :{ so not sure if I should get one now or wait

I thought that they were aiming for a 10 year product life, so 2016ish

You're not alone! I'm currently swapping mine for a Tab. I just haven't really enjoyed the last bunch of games I played which was about 3 months ago. Since then my console has been gathering dust :(

LOL, same here, just want to play uncharted 3 and then PS3 for sale with rockband keyboards, guitars, uncharted 3 and whatever other PS3 games I have, can't remember

BT games said there'll be awesome PS3 specials at rAge. The way I see it, there's 5 years worth of games I can catch up on. The new consoles will be overpriced anyway. I'll be using my PC till they come down in price.

Yes. The PS3 can still have a 10 year cycle even if the PS4 is out. Thanks to the WiiU getting released next year it's made the guys speed up a bit. I can guarantee you the next XBOX will come next year.

To everyone else saying their PS3s have been gathering dust, have you seen the Q4 release schedule?
 
well if anyone has a ps3 with the old firmware please pm me :D looking for another console at a decent price ... must have firmware 3.55 or below...

I'm sure I have ancient firmware, how do I check?
 
To check the version of your system software, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [System Information]. The information is shown in the [System Software] field.

CFW doesn't mean only piracy.... am not here to debate, respect :)

Welcome aboard the Playstation world :)

If you got kids or want to get into the physical side of things, get the PS Move, so much fun :D. Being a rather large fellow and big tummy, it beats (for me anyway) going to the gym. Some really great titles will be using this in the future aswell :)

I think PS Vita will be keeping folks busy until PS4 ships ;-)
 
As for move it's just Heavy Rain that interests me so far. Maybe resistance as well, but gonna try twist a co-workers arm to lend me his move peripherals.

So far I've already ordered:
Wipe Out HD Fury
Star Ocean: Last Hope
Heavy Rain

Unfortunately Star Ocean is coming from the UK and will only get here a week after I have the PS3. Will have to see if ICO/SOTC is available at rAge.

I was looking at the list of games on PS3 last night with a bunch of reviews on all of them and couldn't help but think "Where all all the fun games?'. Everything tries to be uber realistic or uber gory. What happened to the originality of the PS1 type games?

It's why the games I ordered seem so weird.
