hi jack
so how much damage/healing/threat have you lost out on cos of the high ping we play at? And then your guild thought your slackin

I'm one of our top DPS mages in the guild. I've even been promoted to Class Leader 3 days ago :p

It obviously effects it, but not that much.

Only place where you can really see the effect is on places where I need to decurse a lot like Sapphiron. The others get to click much faster then me :p

Last night we had 3 mages decursing and I only got 3 decursed >.<

Well we hunters have a very good DPS spreadsheet tool we can use to work out most of the math behind our DPS gains / drops with gear upgrades.

One of the fields you can customise is the latency you play at... just the difference between 200 ms and 350 Ms is a 500 dps loss. So you can pretty much work it out for yourself just at what a disadvantage we play @ if you play on a 350 - 400 MS latency vs a 40 ms EU player.

A couple hundred dps or so, my guild knows me for being a slacker anyway :p

on my shadow priest I went from almost last on the dps list to 6th just by usein unshaped and gamemax (when it still rocked in beta)

Get Quartz cast bar addon :) Helps a lot as well.

I'm first on DPS in Ulduar :p

has quartz done the /stopcasting macro on all my spells got unshaped but a sp like a aff lock you have to has good timein to keep all your dots up

It had some major changes to my healing as well, any healer can be top healing by doing spam healing, but then go check their overhealing.

My effective healing went up by about 30% by just changing my ISP and using gamemax. Latency definitely have an impact.

i could prolly push another 300dps, especially on XT002 or so. but at this stage i do pretty well tbh. enhancement shamans + magma totem!

Playing a rogue on 350ms lag is as near to pointless as you can get.

Let me put it to you this way:
350ms = almost 3 times a second.
That means that I can build my combo's up to a maximum of 3 a second.

Compare that to a rogue on 100ms lag.
100ms = almost 10 times a second.
That means that that person can build up the 5 shot combo in less than a second.

Unfairness of note!

Edit : Obviously Blizzard have added a delay between moves, so that the maximum number of moves a second is restricted to level the playing fields a bit. But, if your lag is greater than the game-enforced delay ... sorry for you.

I think there is a few things that needs to be stated here just incase you guys blame lag for your slacking :D

1. Blizzard has made changes to the casting mechanics. If done correctly the lag impact should have little to 0 reflection on your DPS.
2. PvE game play from a caster perspective puts you on a 0 ms latency if you play the mechanics correctly.
3. As a melee in PvE Lag doesn't really affect you any which way, unless you need to move out of AoE (Deadlybossmod) should sort that problem out.

The /stopcast macro is no longer needed since Blizzard changed the casting mechanics.

So less QQ more PewPew :p

Yes, you could have a slight disatvantage due to clipping DOT's and messing up your rotations due to the timers being incorrect by little less than a second. But if you learn to work them correctly you shouldn't have a disadvantage.

As for PvP = Just forget about it :D

I have to sometimes run infront of players just to hit them..... That is how bad the PvP part of it is.

i.e. Laggy players like us get 50% of the game functionality (no PVP) @ 100% of the price.

You can do it with nice macros

On my Rogue I used to have

/cast distract
/cast Shadowstep
/cast sap

That made sure I got the Sap in and then just build from there.

But having to run after a target... Makes you want to hit your keyboard through the wall :o

Yea I dunno how you rogues / melee dps'ers play on our latency.

I would throw a brick through my screen if i had to hear the whole time ... not in range... not in range... not in range... or ... not behind target ... not behind target. Even though on your side it shows you right at the target in position !

We hunters kuk off on shot rotations ... but hell. I would NEVER play a melee dps class !

Or running away from a melee with our latencies is MOST annoying >.<

They keep hitting you even though they aren't near you...

This is why my rogue sits at 72. I couldnt take trying to hit someone, and being told im out of range when on my screen im actually in front of him. Or inside him even, and i mean that in a completely non sexual way.

...mmm... how does this effect you leveling ?

I have never had "out of range" fighting PvE mobs :o

It doesnt affect the leveling, but i wanted the rogue for pvp... so its kind pointless to pursue it if he is just going to sit at 80...Ive lost enough hair already, i cant afford to add more rage :)

And i pvped along the way...
