Hey all,

Looks like I'm getting a PS3 and just wanted to ask if anyone here using their console on 1 of those new 23" 16:9 screens and if they can share their thoughts and opinions on it. At the moment I have a Samsung 2253GW but for some reason it doesn't pick up any signal if I plug a PS3 into it, so now I'm looking at maybe the 2494HS or 2333SW.

Thanx in advance
S1ght :)

I'm using my PS3 on a 2333SW and it looks delectable enough to eat.

I agree with ZeroS, Samsung 2333SW is just downright beautiful with the PS3.
All you need is a HDMI to DVI cable, I paid R79.00 for one.
The 2494HS has an HDMI input IIRC it just doesn't look as stylish as the 2333SW though

Add the functionality of being able to use your PC and PS3 (even Xbox 360) at the same time - well, 2 of the 3 at the same time, actually - makes this solution as practical as it is beautiful.

So doesn't look or blurry and wrong like it did if you used a 22" (saw on my friend's monitor) and the difference between that and a proper HDTV was massive :) obviously I'm not expecting the 23" to completely match a proper full HDTV but I'd like it to at least look clear and sharp :) So would you guys recommend the 2494 or 2333? cause the 2494 has the extra *cough .6 inches :D and HDMI, as well as a 50 000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (can't remember what its active one was), its also only R200 extra...

Lets not go down the 22" horror lane. Walked it and it scarred me.

The 23" looks crystal clear and by no way of exaggeration in the least. I've got a friend with a full HD 42" LCD TV and it's clarity rates second to the 2333SW.

Can't comment on the 2494, but it comes highly advised to do research before buying. Check out if the pictures are stretched, etc. Remember most monitors are designed for computers and consoles probably didn't feature on the drawing board.

The 2333SW's native resolution is 1920x1080 which is optimum resolution for the PS3. Hence you need suffer those black lines at the top or sides, nor any scaling of the image, etc.

Again, researching before you buy comes most recommended. Better yet, try to use your PS3 on both screens and judge for yourself.

Welcome! Good to see you are entering real next gen gaming :) Dont forget to join the community at www.ps3za.co.za :) Ignore the haters, they still think a heater is a better console ;)

I would say go for the 2494
It is Full HD and has HDMI unlike the 2333sw

It has recently come down in price. Its around R2400 for the 2494.

Already joined, was actually where I found the deal to buy (well a friend - Peppercorns found and showed it to me)

and @Zero - Thanx for the views, much appreciated, as far as I can see the 2494HS also has a 16:9 ratio to 1920x1080 resolution as well which is why its looking like a very decent monitor at this point :) And if you say the 23" look crystal clear then looks like im definately going to be looking at selling my 22" and upgrading soon :)

The 2333sw is Full HD and a 16:9, I already stated at the top.
2494 is 16:10 and isnt as pretty aesthetically, HDMI to DVI is very much fine.
Also the 2494 is 23.5 inches not a full 24

Just let me know the day your Blu-Ray laser fails. Average life-span of the laser is 18 months.

Of course, allot of units last longer :D

So a Makro extended 3 year warranty would be a good thing then I presume.

Now,now, I'm just here to ask about screens :) When it comes down to which console is better I really don't have the energy to have an endless discussion about it (which it is since there are still a bajilion thread about it) :p

Got nothing better to do so you decide to punt this crap now. Don't you have some E74 errors to fix ;)
