Today I received a call from a telkom robot wishing me well. Basically the robot told me I had to pay my account in 48 hours or I only get coal this Christmas. The thing is that would be all well if the problem was on my side.

Telkom failed to send me a bill this month, and I check my mail every day. Sure it’s a little hiccup but is it so bad that they have to let a damn computer recorded lady call me, threaten me with attorneys and bad credit listings because I’m a week overdue on my phone bill of an ENOURMOUS R732.50? I have never missed a bill with them before since I’ve moved into this house. I have been living here for over 13 years.

The best part is they want me to call them and tell them I have paid because they are too lazy to check for themselves. I have to give them my invoice number which means I will have to go and pay the old fashioned way because they don’t give invoices with electronic transfers.

I will not be surprised if they charged me for the call.

I love our monopoly!

If there is one thing that will really piss me off and that is someone phoning me to remind or tell me that I owe them money?

Last year I had several suppliers that just sent out Statements reflecting Invoices that were already paid. And when queried they say I must produce the proof of payment. Well that’s enough to get my blood boiling for I know that somewhere along the line the previous accounts person has left and the new one hasn't a clue what was paid or not and just sends out Statements accordingly.
So there I am where my mind was clear before, scratching through invoices from eons ago so that I just make sure that my good name remains intact, because some person is too lazy to go through their own pile of invoices.
In each case the company in question had employed new staff.
Well the new staff got an earful from me.
So far this year in OK.

I remember once about 2 years ago some or other recording from Telkom after I picked up the phone.
I actually tried to talk the voice on the other side and felt like fool as noone replied.
I still don't really know what the call was about. It sounded like someone threatening me with a lawyer or something, but I wasn't sure at the time who or what was actually doing the threatening.
I recall and oh yes it was after about 6pm in the evening and it sure didn't sit well with the evenings mood.
The cheek to phone after hours and threaten people with rubbish at about Supper Time.

I will feel a sense of relief when I rid myself one day for good from a Telkom Account.

I think Telkom have become very inflexible regards you paying their account.
When I had my ADSL installed, their first account was about R950. Peanuts for them, but a fair amount of money for me. Prior to that my account has always been paid on time.

I phoned and asked could I pay it off over two months and they charge me interest? No problem the lady says, but your account will be suspended until the full amount is paid.

And they will still charge me for the month my account is suspended. What BS. So your account is a month behind, and they cancel you current service and still charge you for that month's service. Come on people!

If they are going to suspend your account, geeze, then at least not charge you for that period. She also said something about reconnection charges.

telkom aside, it is not uncommon for companies to call and remind you of payments, I went to hospital a month ago, and I got an SMS from the anesthetist stating that the medical aid has paid me, now I must pay them ...

HTF did they know that the medical aid paid me ?!?!?

That's scarry stuff

Personally - I appreciate the reminder call, I really hate having to pay reconnection fee's.
I'm also glad that it's not actually a person on the other end, cos it's one helluva k@k job.

Hehe. The reminder was great, telling me that they will appoint an attourney to hunt the crap out of me and put my name up at bad credit lists is not on. They called me on a fiday night, I had to pay in 48h at a telkom shop to get an invoice. The saturday was a vacation day, and everyone knows people work on sundays. It was a great experiance...

I only wonder what happens when the wrong person answers the phone, you cant tell the computer to hold on, and even better what happens if you are not there to take the call.

Bit annoying that its a robot that called !? Anypne get those calls from the bank, where you answer and a robotic voice tells you to hold for the next operator ....and you hang around until someone finally gets on the other side.

That is how you aliennate your customers !

Telkom Bill.

Go to this link: http://www.telkom.co.za/onlinebill.

Click on new user with less than 10 accounts, Go through all that Bull and their terms etc. You can link up 10 accounts to one user and it should still be free, more than that and you have to pay I think?

You can then log in (https://ebpp.telkom.co.za/) and get your account details, your latest invoices, and even Pay online with your credit card if you want. If you do not pay online it will reflect as unpaid, but ignore that.

I've also set mine up to email me my statement as I've also not received it once or twice. Soon as I get the Email, I set up a post dated payment on my internet banking.

Something else that you could do, When I got my ADSL installed I also had that crap where I was told I was over my limit 2 days after getting my ADSL installed. I asked them to double the cap limit, so basically I can miss a months payment for some reason and still get away with it (Not that I have yet as I'm broke as it is already from one months payment, nevermind paying in arrears)

Two things got to me when having a look at this. In theory - a very nice idea. But I didn't complete registration due to 2 issues:

a) Doesn't work in FireFox

b) The questions about
1) My amount of bills received
2) How much my monthly bills amount to

IMO this has nothing to do with Telkom, and I refuse to furnish this information. If they require it for this service, I can live without the service, or they can run a full credit check on me, at their own expense.
