So my ancient SD decoder finally had one too many loadsheddings

It is flashing the dreaded 'ddd' symbols.

I see you can't buy SD decoders anymore but you can pick up a new HD Single view for about five hundred bucks.

My question is whether I am going to have to pay extra per month for the HD decoder? Also, can I just plug it into my dish? (I suspect it is an 80cm dish.)

You don't pay extra for HD anymore. Access fee (R80) is for extra view and PVR access.

A few members bought their HD single decoder for R400 after using a R100 voucher discount.

I'm sure the dish size is fine. A friend of mine replaced his SD decoder with a HD decoder without any issues.

Just want to say thank you for this advice. The decoder was on special for R435 and with the R100 voucher I managed to pick it up for R335.00.

I'm nearly in a similar situation, ancient SD decoder needs to be rebooted nearly every second day, I am sure its about to go. The problem is it has built in dual view, decoders today don't have that. So I have it connected to my explora with extra view so I get to watch 3 different channels at the same time in my house. By replacing the SD decoder I will now loose a channel. In a house with 3 kids this could become a problem.
