So, my first dvd copy attempt a failure?

I bought a dvd called Host. First attempt to copy dvd directly to my hard disk failed due to copyright.

So I followed these instructions from another forum:

To burn a DVD that either has copyright or a copy protector, you need to download 2 small programs.
1. DVD Shrink (Im using version 3.2)
2. DVD Decrypter

To burn the DVD you want do the following

1. Put your DVD in the DVD reader and then open DVD Shrink. Go to "Edit">"Preferences" and make sure the target size is 7.4GB or lower so it will all fit on 1 normal DVD.
2. Push "Open Disk". It will do a quick analysis. It should only take 1 - 3 minutes
3. When thats done, highlight evrything in the left hand collum and press "Backup!"
4. A window will come up with options. In the "Select Backup Target" Chose "Create ISO Image and Burn with DVD Decrypter. Chose where you would like to place the output files and then press "OK"
5. It is now saving to your computer. This can take anywhere between 20 minutes and 1 and a half hours depending on your computer and the DVD. When it finishes, pull out the DVD and put in a blank DVD and push the button of a DVD in the DVD encryptor. Let it burn and enjoy your new DVD

The burn went well, but now I've ended up with a list of files extensioned .I0 and .MDS looking like this

I have no idea what these files are. Would it be easier to compress it when burning like make the movie 500megs for instance?
 
I can't say for certain as my home pc is dead atm, but those instructions seem a little off. If you not sorted by tomorrow morning I'll post what I do, works everytime.

Thanks Sparky, been scratching my head for hours with this.
 
What it's done has split the files into smaller predefined 'image files'. i would recommend you use CloneDVD.
 
Woooh hold on, put the disc in the drive and select analyze.
The click backup and make sure it backs up an "ISO" to say the desktop.
Then once done use DVD decrypter to burn the ISO manually.

DVD Shrink can be a "1 click solution" if its setup right from the start. I will admit I've never used anything else, simply because it was so easy.
 
yep, I have never had any issues with DVD shrink and I like the fact that you can select what to copy, no need to copy all the audio in other languages
 
The only problem I have with DVD Shrink is if the original is way too large then you must take out the bigger file which is normally the DTS file in live music video's or your picture is not good. for that reason I don't backup my vdeo collection.
