Interesting! Just tried, didn't work for me either. I have noticed that on other parts of the web as well, though I am not sure how it's done. You can't even select the text.

On Firefox you right-click and say "inspect element" - then you can copy the text as much as you like.

Or like screenshot it or something. Not insurmountable, just annoying.

News24 is toxic, race-baiting, sensationalist click bait, poorly written, mostly fake news, gutter media. I'm very glad that they have relegated themselves to irrelevance and hopefully imminent bankruptcy. The world will be a better place without their incitement.

It's the use-select style that does this kind of bullshit.

If you use Opera:

Create file on your deskop, call it blocknews24.txt

paste the following line into that file:

https://www.news24.com/css/tenants/news24/desktop/pages/articledefault/

- In opera go ALT-P
- search for manage lists
- Custom list, click add
- add that blocknews24.txt
- Done. Copy and paste away

News24 might look ugly (mostly the social media section) because you nuked some of their custom styles but #ohwell.

On Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox you can just use the reader view. Strips away most of the Javascript, leaves you with just text and some images.

Great, then the sub is largely pointless. I'd appreciate no ads because my sub should be going towards the upkeep of the site and paying salaries. I subbed to Herald Live this one time and it only unlocked articles, adverts and trackers were still being served.

I was avoiding News24 anyway as many articles seemed to be designed to stir controversy or advance a “woke” agenda, and were also frequently written with poor grammar and inaccuracies. I’ve noticed people don‘t post as many links to News24 on social media.

It's a risky game. As soon as these media companies go with full or partial paywalls I just exclude them from my feeds. Not long after that I forget they even exist. They ultimately destroy the brand recognition they once held rendering them more and more irrelevant. Hard to believe there are not more innovative ways to monetise.
