So sad to hear this :(

He said 70%. Clearly that isn't 'all'

Perhaps I should have been clearer, I was referring to all of the 70% that are superstitious. Not liking snakes or centipedes is understandable, but do all 70% partake and support the mutilation of human beings?
.

Well, if the tradition, culture, believes makes room for that why not 70%? Who are you to put a limit on that?
Here is another recent example for you to chew on:

It certainly looks like this are not a "once off incident". One should keep in mind - it is because of the European law that this cases are "cases" to begin with. I doubt if all this was seen in the same light 500 years ago! Makes you think doesn't it?

I'm sure they are not once off incedents but in no way a reflection of a population on a whole. And what was the point of the reference to half a century ago? Salem witch trials were going on about the same time. Thankfully the majority of the world has progressed bar are a few religious zealouts/psychopaths.

Its extremely hard for 3rd world countries to progress, we have extremely lacking education.

I don't think you fully understand what he is trying to say. He might have a point though. Never mind.

Agreed, people still buying into backwards spiritual beliefs is the direct result of poor education.

**** me, the blatant racism in this thread is hilarious. 70% of Zulus support human mutilation? What the flying ****? Can you get any more offensive?

I'm not sure who is lacking more education -- the superstitious people or people who are unaware of the many shades that superstition takes on. That modern thing they call religion comes to mind but of course "backwards" is only a term allowed for 3rd world countries.

Horrible story @OP. Poor woman and her family, I don't know why some criminals need to take human life instead of just taking valuables.

He didn't say Zulus, he said blacks. And I didn't interpret that he meant they would support mutilation. I read it as supporting the "Muti" type superstition to varying degrees. That does not mean that they want to support the mutilation of young girls for their ovaries. That is obviously a psychopath that did that.

Umm - probably. By that I mean that if you are into muti then you'll take two and call the witchdoctor in the morning. You aren't always aware of what is in the particular brew that you took. Most of the time it will be some hideous smelling root or a bit of bark. But sometimes it includes human bits - do you always know?

I munch down on some western medicines and I don't care what is inside them. I don't care if they were tested on laboratory mice. And through that act I become a supporter of vivisection. Just not directly.
