So this just happened...

While I agree that those parents are irresponsible, I'm not so keen to pass judgement. I'm a parent. I plan on letting my kid run around with other kids in the neighbourhood. Something might happen to them, and people will say what a bad parent I am, for not watching them all the time.
I'm probably doing a bunch of parenting things right now that folks will say is irresponsible, and I'll say I'm letting a kid be a kid. So I see where Hamster is coming from here.

You don't see the difference between letting your kid 'run around with other kids' and letting them stick their heads through a sunroof?

Yip that's the one. I noticed their building a shopping centre on the opposite side of that intersection now.

You are right. This intersection is especially dangerous, and I've seen several accidents and almost been in one. The guys in the turn lanes are often obstructed and can't see if there's oncoming traffic, so they go blindly.

P.S I am not a carebear who think you should Styrofoam your kids up to prevent them from all harm. This was hella stupid though.

Anything can happen to anyone at any time - obviously!!!

But intentionally putting / allowing your kids or other people in harms way is just wrong. The question then is what do you consider "in harms way". Yes, Yes I know, just going to the shops with your kids belted in the back seat is also in harms way, but why increase the risk even more. Common Sense needs to prevail.

Oh I agree with you. And I agree that those kids need to be belted. But no parent (or very few) intentionally put their kids in harms way. The parents in that car would argue those kids are safe as houses. They might be wrong, as our laws require them to be belted, but I think most of us are guilty of similiar transgressions with our kids that maybe aren't as visible as this one.
Anyway, derailing a bit, apoligies.

Are you and Hamster nuts?

This is extremely irresponsible and this type of behaviour should be discouraged.

You get into a car, buckle up and stay on your arse until you reach your destination (or pit stop).

Only fools and idiots will condone this stupidity.

there is a difference between condoning and seeing the lighter side. You have to live your life and that means have a childhood too. Dangers are everywhere even if you reduce the risk there still are dangers.

I would say a child is more likely to be killed in a mugging for a gadget or cellphone than in that situation by means of decapitation in slow moving traffic. So what do you do reduce the risk by not giving the child a phone ? not letting them go outside ? yes sticking your head out the window (or any body part) is dumb but DONT act like you havent done dumb sh*t in your days for fun and dont say times were different then its their time now they must deal with it.

this is the problem with people these days always serious and quick to negatively judge things

Besides how do you know they were allowing it ? you dont know if the children were being defiant its not like the driver can close the sunroof on them or stop in traffic jump out and klap them, easy to say "should be discouraged" but children dont always listen. You just saw that and assumed or are you going to say people cant open sunroofs if they have kids .... dont be THAT guy

My dad would have smacked seven different flavours of shit out of me if I did that while he was driving.

What positiveness can you extract from the idiocy displayed in the photo?

That one kid will almost be on the lap of the driver... go figure.

Firstly, the car has just pulled off from the traffic light - those kids were outside while the car was stationary. Secondly, where the hell did I say they must keep it closed?

BTW do you have kids? Would you allow them to do this?
