Also go with device model. Same thing with HDDs in Windoze. HDD brand + size as name: Movies(SG2TB) etc.

Avoided that for wireless router though, as thought it might make it easier to hack- that a valid concern?? IE: DLinkXXX?

PCs: Mythological creatures (Golem, Drake, Minotaur, Dwarf, etc.). More powerful PC = more powerful creature.
Devices and Wifi hotspots: Mythological places (Gondor, Rivendell, Babylon, Atlantis, etc.).
HDDs: Ancient buildings (Pyramid, Sphinx, Pantheon, Colosseum, etc.). Size of the drive is ~relative to the size of the building.

Well we are talking about a home network here And naming HDDs is trivial anyway in the sense that it serves no real functional purpose.

I've been using stars and made up asterix and obelix names before... but now I cant be really bothered actually, randomly selected short words work a charm
