So which one to choose

I have a 9300 pretty decent phone but the screen resolution is not that good.
I'd go for the Bold 9780.

Thank you for everyone's feedback, me thinks I'm going Bold come July 5th :)

Definitely Bold.
8520 keypad feels very plastic-ky
Other features that Bold has that 8520 doesn't include GPS, better camera, flash

Me being a new BB user, I got my first BB last night, the 9780. And being a die-hard Nokia fanboy, it's a sort of big adjustment. But the Bold is easy to use, easy to setup and the menu's are easy to understand. Apparently the OS6 in the Bold is much better than the Torch, have no idea if it's true or not. The phone has great features, I still have a lot to find out, but so far, I'm blown away by the phones functionality. It feels good in the hand, typing one hand or two is easy, and the screen is not too bad, a little better than the N97 it replaces...

So from a beginners point of view, the Bold would be a much better phone, if considering your needs. The Curve range does have a plastic-ky feel to it, the buttons are a bit hard to press, and it's just a bit too light for me(you want to know you have a phone in you hand). My needs are sort of the same, email, social networking, IM, and the sort. Best advise, go to a shop, and physically compare the Curve and Bold, and based on what they feel like, is the sort of phone you will be getting. Bold has the classic BB feel, Curve has a sort of new edge, rounded feel, sort of drifting away from what BB's are, the final choice will have to be yours....

I'm on my 3rd Bold (9000 > 9700 > 9780) never had such a problem and across our family we've had about 20 different Bold's in the last 4 years .... never had such an issue on one of them, its a rock solid well performing phone so you probably got a dud that had a hardware issue and not a software issue.

So I got my BOLD today, whoo hoo!!

Nice lil device and everything except transferring contacts was a breeze. After some clever trickery I got it right in the end though, although it took about an hour of head scratching combined with some choice phrases and utterances. The OS seems intuitive enough and as an avid Nokia user I must says job well done RIM.

BTW: Thanks to all who gave feedback, its well appreciated :)
