Last year I built up a new gaming machine, but wanted to virtualize my other environments (as I don't have a separate media server)

Found unraid. Not only is it a NAS type system with a parity drive, it also virtualizes my windows/linux installs and I can do graphics passthrough for full gaming.

Loving it. Have my Sonarr/Media Center running without hiccups, everything is in "raid" and my windows install is clean and clear of clutter and/or ****ty virtualbox's running

Any of you guys running it?

Almost did but could not justify the cost vs. free options.

Now using SnapRaid instead as it runs as a scheduled job on my Ubuntu Server. Free and works. Not realtime though but that also means no performance impact.

Have been running it for the last 5 years. Still use it today, it's boss. I run mine on an HP Microserver N54L with 6 x 2TB drives and with a 140GB SSD cache drive. Runs SAB, CP, SB and now with Unraid 6 now supporting docker, it's an even more awesome :)

I currently use XBMC and unRAID and have had no trouble. The setup was simple but I would suggest that on the setup of the unRAID you do a manual IP address can help to make things easier I have found. Thanks.

also have been using it for close to 3 years - very impressed with the Raid stability.

latest V6 seems a bit unstable(GUI crashing) on my hardware, so downgraded to a V5 - why break it when it is stable.

the virtualization seems really really cool :

I haven't had the gui break on me at all; then again I have brand new hardware all around. Upgraded to 32gb RAM 2 weeks ago and my VMs are running perfectly.

yup - i believe it to be stable on current hardware- i have been combing almost every release thread of version 6 the past year or two.

also installed it on a gen6 microserver for a friend last week, and seems very very stable.

think my hardware easily 5 to 6 years old (cpu is a Q6600 bought from a friend), so mobo is probably not that great anymore.

i am any case wondering if i shouldn't go your route and install a server/gaming pc combination, but my focus is still on saving power.

ideas ideas

If your focus is on saving power then a server/gaming combo would work just fine. I'm running PhaZe's plugins for Sonarr/CouchPotato/Emby Media Server and using the rig as my primary Windows install that I game on (mostly just Blizzard type games, few on Steam)

Then I run a Debian server for all my PHP dev stuff and I'm planning on adding more VM's as I test my multi-node setup for my live environment that I want to upgrade (all web server based stuff)

All while still running 1 PC instead of that + Media Center + whatever else. Power consumption hasn't gone up at all

Unraid is running a special now, get 30% off when upgrading to PRO:

My Dell Poweredge is so productive with Unraid:
