Johannesburg – A "racist'' meme which seemingly mocked the death of former Springboks scrumhalf Joost van de Westhuizen has enraged Twitter users.

The offensive meme which depicts Spiderman actor Tobey Maguire grinning with the caption: “Me when I hear a white man has died” was posted by Riaan Lucas.

Lucas has since deactivated his Facebook account. He could not be reached for comment.

Van der Westhuizen died on Monday after losing his battle with motor neuron disease.

He was 45.

Van der Westhuizen was rushed to hospital on Saturday, his J9 Foundation confirmed.

Despite stabilising and showing signs of acknowledging those around him, Van der Westhuizen died on Monday afternoon.

Van der Westhuizen, who was diagnosed with the illness 2011, played 89 Tests for the Springboks between 1993 and 2003.

He scored a then-Springbok record 38 tries and is widely regarded as one of the game’s finest-ever scrumhalves.

haha guess who will be on the unemployment line soon. Companies do not like to be known for employing racists in SA.

Being stupid does not pay!

So?

People need to wake up and realize the "bullies" of the world only thrive because of the attention that people give them.

Plenty of racist black South Africans have had a token suspended with full pay until the storm blows over situation.

can someone explain to me how "Social media users explode".
Is it actually an exothermic reaction, are there explosive compounds/gases involved, or what exactly is it?
I think it is an exothermic reaction.

People who cause it to explode power the reaction by using the potential energy they bottle by not living fulfilling lives. Then once they finally see someone who is worse than they are, they can let loose all their bottled feelings and feel better about themselves.

FEELINGS, gentlemen, feelings are all important.

'"racist"' - so it may not really be racist ???
"seemingly" - so 'Joost is vrek' is not a definite indication ???

At least News24 came one step closer to the realities of South Africa despite trying to add a slant.

What am I to do about someone, who I have personally heard making jokes and racist comments about black people dying/suffering (Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela), being all outraged by this post?
