I guess you can order some from a chemical company like Merck? Not sure if they sell to the general public or only to industry/sciences.

But juice manufacturers are the go to for me as I used to use it when I was in that trade.

I just can't think of anyone else besides Protea that we used to buy chemicals from right now.

Yip - Protea Chem I used more for cleaning agents - though they do have food grade too, but they sell in helluva bulk.
can't hurt to try them though.

I was actually given a kit with some stuff, including sodium alginate, and it indicates that the supplier can provide more when what was included in the kit runs out. Not too worried about this one, as I saw it in a big bag at a local PnP too - will double-check that they do actually carry it and PM him.
