I have seen differing reports with regards to using Softaculous (on cpanel) to install something like Wordpress vs installing it via the manual way.

What are your thoughts on this?

I use a management console like managewp / infinitewp to do that for me.

Softaculous is nice because it asks the right questions, so for a n00b, one-click install, and getting notified if there are version upgrades pending for your install, sure.

But anything more than 3 wordpress installs, I'd rather use a management console as mentioned

softaculous takes the hassle out of having to download wordpress, ftp the zip file, unzip the zip file(some hosts, depending on control panel dont allow unzipping via file manager).. and as mentioned, it makes it easy as pie for noobs to install..
