Can anyone tell me how does softcap work on telkom dsl and if im still able to download if out of bundle.

Thanks

I wouldn't count on it. By the time your download finishes, your line would have desynced and cancelled the download. That, or it's already the next month.

what are you smoking?

softcap is just that, soft, meaning based on your previous download "profile" you get your speed lowered for the rest of the month. I was able to download up to 30gb before I saw a speed impact and by then it was almost end of month with new a cap.

if your line "desync" like this person wants you to believe, then your download manager should automatically restart your download when it has an active internet connection again. And if it's "already the next month" then you don't have to worry about being in the softcap range or have any speed impact imposed on you whatsoever.

KZN seems like it's going downhill, fast.

Here are speeds while softcapped on my 40Mbit line:

Code:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 381 kbps (47.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 388 kbps (48.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 16 ms

Is that 1/100th of line speed or does one always get ~50kB/s?

I think you're thinking of something else. Softcap will immediately drop your speed once your cap has been reached. See results above.

As far as i know, when you exceed your cap, Telkom reserves the right to lower you speed to 384kbps and lower (depending on your download habits)

I used to be a "Hard Capped User" back in the day, but have no switched to "unlimited". But to the best of my knowledge the above info is what happens

Apparently I have exceeded my cap but no-one at Telkom can tell me what my cap is. When I originally signed up many years ago it was top of the line uncapped. But things change. I phone them up (took hours of waiting) to be told its 1 gig but they don't even have a 1 gig package? I go on-line to my account and again it just says I have used 100% but how much I have actually used I don't know? 100% of what?No-one seems to know.

I need to know how much was used in 3 days so I can calculate how much more I need and do some comparisons with other products.

Just log in here: https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/index.jsp

I am on a 4MB line and get 30-40 kilobytes per second when soft capped.
