Can anyone recommend software that actually works for recovering data off a SD Card?

My wife just last about six months of toddler photos and videos (after months of me nagging to backup) - phone was giving issues - took the MicroSD card out the phone, popped in PC to finally do backup, and it prompted her to format (said no) - removed it and plugged it in again - and the DCIM folder is gone, all other folders are there.

I would plug it into a linux box and see what can still be read tbh. Otherwise, #2 / try your luck with recovery software.

R-Studio: https://www.r-studio.com/RAID_Recovery_Presentation.shtml

Have recovered data from numerous drives, including my wife's thesis from a memory stick ;-)

Set the SD card to read only (should be a little toggle on the side)
Then scan (only select FAT) and cross fingers.

Nb. You will likely lose folders and file names and end up with long list of file0001, file0002, etc but extension should be correct.

Do you just stagger from thread to thread...giving kak and/or useless advice?
Did you stagger here to stalk me some more?

always that one desperate forumnite who needs to be the dog who tags along. now be a good dog and **** off

Only one I know of is: https://www.easeus.com/storage-media-recovery/recover-corrupted-sd-card.html
But it's a hit/miss type situations, depending on the SD card.

You don't have auto backup for google photos? Photos.google.com
Well, I scanned my failed SanDisk 256GB SD card with EaseUS 5.8 a few days ago. It scanned more than an hour but none of my lost data found. Then I saw iBoysoft Data Recovery throughout other forums there are users recommending it. So I thought I'd give it a try, attempted to download the free version from the developer website (https://iboysoft.com/data-recovery/sd-card-data-recovery.html). Ran its scan and it was very fast. Although the software ignored the directory structure, it did a good job of finding my lost files. The free iBoysoft Data Recovery has a 1GB limit. If it can recover the directory structure, I'm willing to buy the full product.

I accidently deleted a folder containing over 200GB on one of drives and I was able to recover everything using Recuva (https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva). It's from the same team that does Ccleaner. The free version is good enough for most needs.
Came here to suggest recuva. It can recover after a quick format, but you will lose filenames. Just do a deep scan.
