Hi there and thanx so long for your help.

What software do you guys recommend for downloading files from places like rapidshare atc?

I used to you OrbitDownloader untill I have read that it is spyware?

Thanx,
Deon

I use Orbit it is brilliant.

I also like it very much, seeing that it downloads Youtube videos as well.
Something that scares me though, is this from Wikipedia:

Orbit Downloader also accelerates downloads by acting as a peer-to-peer client, utilizing bandwidth of other users.

and

The software functions entirely as advertised, but the "100% clean" rating is misleading. Users who install Orbit Downloader will notice that their homepages are rerouted to an Orbit-branded version of Google, and the default search box in Internet Explorer is also changed to the Orbit search function. This is easily avoided, however, by un-selecting the appropriate boxes during the installation of the program.

How do I un-select the peer-to-peer function?

You can stop that by unchecking the "Enable Orbit to accelerate download speed" option in Preferences on the Accelerate page.

Also with any free software (especially if it isn't OSS) it may be a good idea to keep track of it with your firewall if you have any doubts about it. Granting it permission to connect to sites as you go (are downloading from), and permanently blocking any other activity it attempts such as "phoning home" etc.
