If the software of Mac's was in the price range of PC's, would you buy one?

It is in the price range - its the machines that are stoopidly priced.

Regardless... I would not buy Mac.

The machines are not stupidly priced. Especially for laptops you get the same as you would get if you were buying an IBM Thinkpad or any other high-end laptop. The desktops are also premuim sector machines so compare them with what you get from Sony and then complain. Apple do not make entry level equipment.

But the software is similarly priced when compared with PC software.

What that guy said :)

it's still lousy. mac looks great though. but you can't do much with them unless all you want to do is use microsoft word or you're in the media/advertising business.

What are you talking about?

Productivity wise I can do pretty much anything on a mac.

How come there are so many frigtards:) out there who have no idea what you can do with a mac... posting about what you supposedly can't do?

For the record... its a computer with a operating system and applications that interoperates with other types of computers i.e you can do all of the same things as a pc and lots of times you can do more.

Apple pricing for a lot of their software is competitive esp. with the five seat family packs. Mac OS X and Mac OS X server pricing certainly leave Windows in the dust.
Being able to upgrade all of my macs to Leopard "premium" for a grand total of about R1350 is going to be a real pain:D.

Maybe I've just been looking in the wong places to then, where is the best place to buy a mac and related software.

Try the ZAStore.co.za, as well as the iStores in Clearwater and Menlyn, there is Cool Apple Buddy in Sandton, Look and Listen in Cresta and Hyde Park and Waynes World in Cresta. Or just go to apple.co.za and go to the "where to buy" link.

What do you consider "related software". Macs ship with pretty much everything you need. There are a couple of "what can I do with a mac" threads in this forum that list a whole bunch of software suggestions.
