Hi

Anybody know of any good, free software out there that will be able to test a laptop motherboard for defects?

Got a laptop here which is not cherry - Windows reboots after a blue screen, and it is not the RAM as it's been tested and is cherry.

Many thanks

You sound convinced it's a hardware problem?

Could also be a driver issue in the OS. Is re-installing an option?

Good, yes. Free, no.

MicroScope Diagnostic Suite. Use your imagination as to where to get it from ;)

Pointless wasting your time with other stuff.

It is definitely the hardware.

Got two Gigabyte laptops, virtually identical. Installed Vista () on 160Gb HDD in lappestoppe A, works cherry. Updated everything, the works.

Moved 160Gb HDD over to lappestoppe B - instant BSOD - reboot cycle.

Moved HDD back to lappestoppe A - cherry.

$luser also complained of lappestoppe B giving weird issues, like Outlook corrupting its .OST files, at first I thought it was the HDD, hence the HDD transplant... but it turns out it wasn't the HDD after all.

$luser is working happily with new hard drive on lappestoppe A (my work's laptop) - and I want to test lappestoppe B ($luser's original lappestoppe)

Thanks, will take a look around at the suggestions.

BIOS - same.
RAM - same. (tested with memtest86+)
