Software Idea

Hi

I am not in the IT business, but have an idea for what I believe is a very viable software app. Do you guys have any suggestions as to who I can get in contact with to discuss this idea.

Well the first thing you would need to do is identify what industry it falls under. (Financial, Corporate Management, Educational, Mobile, Web etc) Then ask for developers experienced in that industry to contact you. If this is your business idea, don't expect to make a fortune from it, without sharing it.

You don't have the know-how, so you'll need to get someone to help you develop your idea. They're going to take at least 50% for their efforts, which in essence is fair. The idea is only a small portion of the enterprise. But do as much research into the idea on your own before bringing in others. That way when you interview, they don't baffle you with b*lls*it.

Just remember, almost all small software startups have a team of 4-8 primary stakeholders.
 
What I have in mind will be used mainly by the retail industry. Can be used worlwide! Will want to approach Wal Mart as well.
 
I've worked for Massmart (Masscash/Furnex) for several years. They have their own teams working on software. Now that Walmart has bought a vested interested, I really doubt that your idea is unique enough to enter the space. However, I'm always cynical (The Grinch for a reason). So if you'd like to bounce ideas off of me, feel free to PM someone who has been in the belly of the beast and seen 1.1 billion rand in sales go through a system he worked on.

You will be suprised how many ideas are already being done. It is how you market the idea and put an interesting twist on it. PM I should be able to tell you if the idea is original or not otherwise feel free to ask any of the jokals on the forum.

Ideas aint that unique anymore. Marketing and speed of execution IMO are more important.
 
I've often wondered how this works. Someone's got a great idea but is too scared to mention it to anyone in case it gets stolen. How the hell do implement your idea? Can you patent it? What if you spend major money protecting it and it bombs?

You can sign non disclosure agreements with developers etc
