Im running windows xp, and the hard drive has 1 partition with all the disk space used. Looks like I will have to shrink this partition - does anyone know how?
EDIT: A partitioning tool like Partition Magic will do the trick.
follow this link below http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/try-ubuntu-before-you-install
once your in ubuntu, hit the window key and type gpart. From here you can do a bit of reading to settle your mind your doing the write thing, but the whole idea is you can resize your partition.. as long as you have space ..to any size
Have Fun and back up your **** before destroying your drive before you do some thing wrong
I've been using it for years, even for windows machines:
People I know send me their screwed up laptops, so I boot from a Linux CD, copy their data to a spare drive, format and make separate OS and DATA partitions on their hard drive, re install windows onto the OS partition and move their data back to the new data partition.
