Hey guys.

Wife and I want to do some extensions to the house, so I'm looking for any software which is easy enough for a lay to use.

Nothing fancy, I just need to play around with some ideas before giving a draftsman a call.

Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley Microstation, etc (Use evaluation versions). Anything can draw up house plans, you just have to make sure that you follow the codes and guidelines correctly. If you can do the drawing properly, you only need a registered draughtsman to sign it off. Will save you a lot of cash.

MS visio?

Been using it for past two years at work. awesome program. use it for drawing floor plans and then as well network diagrams

Visio is only great for 2D plans really..

When you want to visualise something in 3d its not really appropriate.

Chief Architect has some amazing features but have not used it yet myself, am also in the market for 3D design software
