Does anyone know if some software exists which you can point to a share on your PC which contains copies of your legal TV episodes, it will scan through it and tell you what TV episodes you are missing.

If will have to for example query thetvdb for the current episode and then check your episode numbers and tell you if you are missing any.

I've done a google and can't find anything so am thinking of writing a app to do it - before I start this venture something like this might already exist.

If you are developing an app, perhaps another idea is to have the software detect duplicate episodes/movies/songs across multiple folders

This is probably something that may help, although not exactly just for finding missing episodes, I use it to spot them missing files (lost a hdd or 2x before). The whole media center part i dont really use, but its kewl to show off a collection.

Direct Download Link

install and run once

The Plugin:

Direct Download Link

Install - it will launch config screen ( you later access via mediaportal configuration - plugins - tvseries)

Click Online data - tick the download whole series option

If your just interest in using it for a check system, untick the download images for thumbnailes, series art, episode pictires etc

Add folder, let it run

Once its done all its processing, then you should be able to click on a series, expand it, then see all episodes that were found are black, and missing eps in grey
May have to click show hidden items

Sickbeard will do that perfectly ...and more.

Greatest little software since sliced bread. It can search for nzb's or torrents.

You can also specify the quality of the downloads.

You can also add future shows (like terra nova and falling skies) to it,sit back and wait for it.

Is it really that difficult to count the total and sequence of episode numbers of legal shows? ;) :D

Awesome, I found this thread and tried out TVrename - really works awesome.
Although I use it to find missing episodes, and then I use theRenamer to rename episodes (much more control on the output file format).
Still want to test the MediaPortal - just need to update my Home Theater PC to support HDMI.
Then I need to find some bluetooth USB chargeable remote that I can use...

Since I watch them in sequence, I only need to remember the episode number of the last one I watched. And my sky box has this amazing feature which has 3 status levels. Recorded, viewed and part viewed. :)

And Sky automatically records all of them using its series link feature.

I heard about one called Couch Potato. It finds episodes for series that you currently watch on your computer. Pretty neat!
