I bought a Barracuda 7200.11 SATA 3Gb/s 1-TB drive this morning, what software can I use to format this drive? I want one partition (using the full drive) -

Thanks

Why the hell would you use anything else to format a drive? Windows does it perfectly.

Hi Gary

Windows XP picks up the drive under device manager, but it does not reflect under my computer. So my guess was, due to the size of the drive maybe there's software I need to use to partition and format it?

Hi.

Try this. Start menu, Control Panel, administrative tools, computer management, click on disk management.

The drive should show up there.

OK, I shall try that.

Use disk manager and assign a letter to the drive/partition.

RESOLVED

Hi All

Thought I'd give some feedback after some of the suggestions I was given. My problem was the exact same as in the article listed here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1066302.html

My Seagate 1 Terabyte appears as a 32MB drive in XP. After searching the web I found the solution - using a boot CD called the ultimate boot CD that can be found here www.ultimatebootcd.com - I was able to reset the drive's capacity and format it using said software. The boot CD has support for other makes of drives as well - so, if any of you run into this problem, this is how I resolved it.

Thank you for all the replies.
