Is there any way to take a standard DVD and re master it to make the quality higher?
Say I take an older movie I have on DVD, I want to increase the resolution or the quality, is there a way?

Thanks

You cannot improve the quality. The information is not there in the first place. You kinda wanna turn lead into platinum.

You could try using interpolation software on each individual frame and upscale the image and it will try and "create info or fill in the blanks" but you will be old by the time you are done.

Do you have a better source for the movie on the DVD?

I mean... let's say that you own the DVD of the Movie "Jack Sprat"

But you also managed to find an HD source of the movie online in mkv format.

Then you can just create yourself an HD version of the DVD by using DVD Flick to re-master a new DVD of the movie (I dunno if DVD Flick will import mkv, I'm just guessing). Is that what you want to do?

Or do you just want to take an existing DVD and make it better (which is not really possible, I don't think)?

You can remove audio distortion and other small problems (much like removing red eye from a photo, etc) but you can't turn a DVD into, say HD for example.

's funny :p - no-one picked up on vReveal, about which:
vReveal makes it easy to fix common video problems and offers enhancement features unavailable in any other video software.

Even though vReveal is video enhancement software (not video editing software), comparisons to video editors like Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas, and Apple iMovie are understandable. These applications allow you to do things like adjust sharpness and contrast, but only vReveal offers the super-resolution technology that increases resolution, significantly reduces noise, and provides sophisticated stabilization.

Runs on CPU-only systems
  • GPU Acceleration with NVIDIA graphics processors
  • Automatically locates all the videos on your PC and presents them in a single gallery. (Re-discover videos you forgot you had!)
  • Play video files
  • Enhance videos
  • One Click Fix
  • Clean video noise
  • 2x Resolution - Increase the detail of low-resolution videos
  • Stabilize shaky videos
  • Sharpen blurry videos
  • De-interlace
  • Contrast correction
  • Brighten dark videos
  • Fix videos in batches
  • “Fine Tuning” enhancement controls for advanced users
  • Simple (but handy!) editing
  • Rotate sideways videos
  • Trim a video to its best moment

vReveal can import the following formats: .AVI, .MPG, .ASF, .WMV

With QuickTime installed on your system, vReveal can also play .MOV, MPEG 4, and .3GP files.

If you have a file you’d like to enhance that is not included in these formats, installing a freely-available video codec pack (e.g., from www.codecguide.com) can increase vReveal’s compatibility with other video formats.

Supported input resolutions:
You can enhance videos with a vertical resolution of 576 pixels (PAL resolution) or less. You can apply simple edits (rotate, trim) on all videos up to HD.

Supported output resolutions:

vReveal can save enhanced videos to 720p (1280x720 HD) resolution and lower.

Minimum system requirements:
Operating System: Windows XP or Vista
Processor: Intel or AMD 1.6GHz CPU (SSE2 compatible)
Memory: 1GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 50MB of free space
Optional: A CUDA-enabled NVIDIA graphics processor* is needed in order to take advantage of GPU acceleration. This includes the 8-series and higher GeForce models with driver version 178 or higher. An NVIDIA GPU with at least 128MB memory is recommended.

* Not supported: GeForce 8800 Ultra, 8800 GTX, 8800 GTS 640, 8800 GTS 320; Quadro 4600 and 5600. Support for these cards coming soon!
So, the start (I think, happy to be proven wrong) of Joe Sixpack use for fancypants nVidia cards that goes beyond 'mere' games.
